Job description

Waracle are looking for a mid-level Automation QA for an exciting new role joining our world-class digital technology consultancy and home to a diverse, smart, curious and ambitious community of specialists in technology-driven transformation.

We work with ambitious clients to help them solve their biggest business and customer challenges. We help our clients to innovate and create intelligent digital products and services. We thrive on complex  challenges and deliver business-critical IT transformation projects, moving seamlessly from strategy, design and delivery to operations.

This is a hybrid working role from any Waracle office, at least 2 days per week (Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee or London).

As a mid-level Automation QA, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of complex digital platforms. You will move beyond basic execution to actively design test scripts, contribute to debugging, and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to deliver business-critical IT transformation projects. This role requires a blend of technical programming knowledge and a deep understanding of the software development life cycle.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Testing Methodologies: Applying knowledge of functional and non-functional testing techniques to debug low-to-intermediate complexity problems and escalate more complex issues appropriately.

  • Test Strategy and Artefacts: Creating detailed test plans and scripts based on acceptance criteria/designs while maintaining documentation to assist in team standards.

  • Test Automation: Consistently writing reusable, automated test code that accounts for edge cases and errors within existing frameworks.

  • Tools and Ways of Working: Utilising knowledge of SDLC concepts and Agile principles to comfortably work within multidisciplinary teams.

  • Defect Management: Reporting defects to a high standard with clear reproduction steps and ensuring "around" fixes are validated alongside the primary fix.

  • Client Collaboration: Breaking down work into iterative chunks to estimate complexity and communicating effectively with team members to ensure a shared understanding of priority.

  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively following project methodologies and looking to grow skillsets in a manner that allows for easy movement across various projects and domains.

Job requirements

What you’ll bring:

  • Proven experience in developing automated test scripts within existing frameworks using primary programming languages (Typescript is preferred).

  • Hands-on experience with automation frameworks such as Playwright or Cypress in a production environment.

  • Experience testing APIs using Postman/Newman for exploratory and collection-based testing, or code-based libraries like Supertest or Playwright.

  • Experience implementing automated tests across multiple browsers and devices to ensure consistent user experience.

  • Proven ability to automate visual regression checks across multiple breakpoints (Mobile, Tablet, Desktop) to ensure UI consistency.

  • Experience configuring and maintaining test execution within GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar automation workflows.

  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment and a solid grasp of SDLC concepts.

  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git and collaborative development workflows.
